Partha Roy, MBBS, MD, PhD

Colonel (Dr) Partha Roy is a distinguished military veteran and medical professional with over 32 years of service in the Indian Army Medical Corps. His extensive career spans roles in technical, administrative, and academic settings within the Corps, where he held responsibilities ranging from clinical lab management to advanced medical research. Dr. Roy is a full professor accredited by the National Medical Commission (NMC), specializing in microbiology and infectious diseases, and he is an academic guide for Ph.D. students.

Dr. Roy is an accredited DBT/RCGM biosecurity and biosafety expert, advising on containment and safety protocols to prevent the environmental release of RG2/3 pathogens.

An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, Dr. Roy completed his M.D. in Microbiology from Karnatak University in 1996. He later earned a Ph.D. in Life Sciences, conducting pioneering research on genetic factors affecting HIV susceptibility in Northeastern Indian populations at the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED, ICMR), Kolkata.

As a professor of Microbiology at AFMC Pune, Dr. Roy led the Department of Virology and HIV Studies, collaborating with leading institutions like NARI, NIV, and NCCS on virology and HIV research projects. He served as a faculty member for the military's NBC deterrence program, focusing on bioterrorism, and contributed to the Indo-USPACOM initiative on the H1N1 pandemic response. He was awarded the prestigious COAS commendation medal for his distinguished work in AFMC.

After 2016, Dr. Roy transitioned to Oncquest Laboratories, where he applied his expertise in virology and quality assurance, overseeing high-end microbiological diagnostics and molecular solutions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was appointed Head of Operations and Quality at Spicehealth Limited, leading the establishment of 27 NABL-accredited, portable labs across eight Indian states and airports. Under his direction, these labs conducted up to 65,000 RT-PCR tests daily in government facilities, airports, and other critical locations. Managing over 2,000 staff members, he ensured seamless operations and testing accuracy during this crucial period.
